Another large study [1] aimed at understanding the benifits of breast feeding was carried out by McGill University. The researchers wanted to assess if breastfeeding had any influence on lowering the rates of gastrointestinal and respiratory infection and atopic eczema among infants. They conducted the study in the republic of Belarus. A total of 17046 mother/ infant pairs particpated in the study. They had to breast feed for 3-6 months and then be remonitored 1 year later. <!--break--)
The researchers concluded a 50% reduction in atopic dermititis (eczema) cases and as well a great reduction in gastrointestinal rates (both conditions are often related according to Chinese medicine). This is a very significant reduction and shows the importance of preventative care. With eczema rates skyrocketing over the past several decades we have to do everything we can to help prevent it.
