Acne, Accutane, and Infertility

  • Acne

Over the past several weeks many of the cilents I have been seeing at Acubalance Wellness Centre for the treatment of Acne and/ or Fertility, have used the acne medication Accutane in the past. Many of them expressed how they felt the typical side effects of dryness throughout their body. One male client saying that he thinks he didn't even sweat for a year. It is well known that the use of Accutane has been linked to birth defects if used during pregnancy or too close to the time of conception.

What is interesting to me is that these people are now dealing with fertility problems later in their life. The males having issues with their sprem health and the females with the quality of their eggs and ovarian health. Does accutane affect reproductive health. Can the drying effect of this potent drug damage the body in such a way so that the normal process of producing quality eggs and sperm is reduced?

When I researched the side effects of Accutane I could not find any evidence of the drug affecting fertility. What I did find was that many lawsuits are being put together against the manufactures of accutane in connection with possible autoimmune diseases such as; Chrones disease, ulcerative colitis, Lupus, and others related to the kidney, liver, and blood vessels. Premature ovarian failure is quite often asociated with autoimunne disease.
